The building houses specially commissioned paintings and sculptures, including a magnificent statue of the mythical phoenix who, legend has it, on his last night gathered branches of cinnamon to create a funeral pyre from which a new born bird would emerge.

Cinnamon Mount was designed by architect C. Anjelandran, a protege of Geoffrey Bawa's, who believed his work should provide "a meditative refuge from the tragedy and trauma of life". This contemporary bungalow is therefore serene and uncluttered, furnished with an engaging mix of antique and modern pieces and hung with carefully chosen work representing the younger contemporary Sri Lankan artists.
The large open plan living area has spectacular views of the ocean, becoming quite breathtaking at nightfall as the sun slides out of sight, leaving a fiery glow. A wonderful Sri Lankan sculpture acts as a room divider between sitting and dining rooms, and opposing glass doors ensure a comforting, cool sea breeze.
