Galle Face Hotel

Colombo

Overview

The Galle Hotel was refurbished in 2014/2015. As one of the great heritage landmarks of Sri Lanka and facing the Galle Face green, the hotel is a meeting place for many 'ladies who lunch', business men and tourists. The hotel is much admired and the characteristic concierge in traditional dress never stops smiling and provides the ideal escape for those in the know.

he hotel boasts its own entrance from Galle Road and has retained many of the features of the original Victorian architecture. Grand teak staircases and high ceilings create charm and with all refurbished rooms, and it maintains a boutique atmosphere savoured by the discerning traveller wishing to escape the grandeur and bustling social climbers of the main hotel.

Those fascinated by the Regency's history will enjoy the 1864 museum showing off a super collection of memorabilia from the 1800's.  The main show piece is a classic car once owned by Prince Philip during British reign. It was infact his first car whilst serving in the navy under Lord Mount Batton's charge. It is a magnificient piece of art and enginering worth considerably more than the £12 paid by Prince Philip (apparently in installments)!

Truely elegant, the hotel is a rare discovery in Colombo's expanse of high rise hotel chains. Perfectly located for the City's cosmopolitan shops and restaurants and a pleasant walk from the World trade centre.
