Ambalama Villa

This stylish four bedroom beach villa, designed by one of Sri Lanka’s leading expatriate architects, offers complete privacy beside a beautiful coral lagoon just south of Galle. Set on a pristine stretch of beach and within walking distance of several restaurants, it is an easy place to settle into and switch off.
The villa combines clean contemporary design with natural materials, weathered timber, marble and warm touches of colour. Large louvred doors open onto a private courtyard and pool, while the sheltered infinity pool overlooking the sea is perfect for lazy days under the trees.
Come evening, settle in with a sundowner and watch the lights of ships passing across the horizon. You may even hear the distant sound of temple music drifting across on the breeze.
With excellent in house dining, beautiful design and a wonderfully peaceful beachfront setting, this is a villa made for doing very little, and enjoying every minute of it.
Rooms
There are four spacious, well-appointed double bedrooms, which are fully air conditioned.
There are two rooms at each end of the villa, ideal for 2 families, 3 king sized bed suites and one twin suite. They are tight on space, but two of the suites have days beds and, which are ideal for children and a cot can be provided.
Floors here as in the living room are large, cool stone tiles, and the neutral tones follow through the decor of the bedrooms. The king size, four poster beds are beautifully draped with white mosquito nets. Windows look out onto the garden and a long, upholstered window seat tempts you to enjoy the view. Each bedroom has a large en suite bathroom beautifully appointed, with long vanity unit, twin wash basins and modern taps. Above this is a huge mirror with directional lighting.
A 'wall' of louvred doors leads on to the terrace and your panoramic view of the ocean.
An experienced staff of six are in residence to cater for all your comforts.
Dining
Food is in the hands of the resident chef, who will buy and prepare anything you desire. Local lobsters, prawns and other delicious sea foods are plentiful. You may enjoy accompanying Chef to market one day to admire the vast array of tropical fruits and vegetables and the amazing day's catch by the the local fishermen.
Discuss with Chef, daily or weekly, what you would like to eat, and how you would like it prepared. If you feel like a change of environment there are several popular restaurants a short walk away and some excellent sophisticated, restaurants in Galle.
Things to do & local tips
- Visit nearby historic Galle with its ancient Dutch Fort; walk the ramparts at sunset, visit the many burgeoning desiger boutiques.
- Admire the peaceful proximity of Buddhist temple, Mosque in a converted church, an Angican church and a Dutch Reformed church.
- Scuba diving schools abound; go and explore the reef.
- Visit the simple beach bars and restaurants nearby
- Visit a local turtle hatchery and join in the release of baby turtles back to the sea.
- Walk inland through the jungle to admire one of the many temples.
- Take a day safari to a game park.
