Boutique Sri Lanka (BSL)

Apa Villa

Surrounded by colourful tropical gardens and just a short drive from Galle and lively Unawatuna, Apa Villa Thalpe feels like a little world of its own. The property is made up of three elegant colonial style villas, which can be booked individually or together, making it equally lovely for a couple, a small family or a group looking for their own private retreat.

The villas are beautifully designed, combining contemporary furniture with local fabrics and thoughtful touches that make the stay feel personal. The main house has a large, book filled living room, while the gardens are dotted with quiet corners, a graceful contemplation pool and a beautiful infinity pool that seems to stretch towards the Indian Ocean.

It is the little things that give Apa its edge. From English language newspapers waiting in your room and evening turn down service to beautifully arranged wedding celebrations, there is a genuine attention to detail throughout.

The beach directly in front of the villa is better suited to paddling than swimming because of the strong undertow, but the sea is always part of the experience. You can sit by the pool listening to the waves, wander along the coast or take a short walk to a safer swimming spot. Even the gentle sounds of the Galle Road in the early morning are quickly forgotten once you are surrounded by the gardens, the ocean and the relaxed pace of Apa.

A wonderfully intimate coastal escape, with the privacy of a villa and the service of a boutique hotel.

Highs

  • Individual villa with full deluxe service and comfortable and stylish interiors.
  • Location- Close to the historic Galle and lively Unawatuna, yet secluded in its own little world.
  • Large attractive infinity swimming pool.

Lows

  • The narrow beach is not safe for swimming because of an undertow, and you must walk 1km to swim in the surf. It’s fine for paddling to knee height.
  • Very light sleepers may hear the early morning traffic on the Galle Road at the front of the Hotel, but the sounds of the Indian Ocean will more than make up for this.

Rooms

Set within three beautifully restored colonial-style villas, each suite offers timeless elegance, breathtaking sea views, and exceptional privacy. Blending classic colonial architecture with modern comforts, every stay is designed to provide a peaceful and relaxing coastal escape.

Dining

There is a large dining table capable of seating 12 in Main House for house party groups, but many guests will prefer to eat at the tables on their own verandahs. The newly built dining pavilion overlooking the Indian Ocean is also a popular choice for romantic evenings. Eating is always an enjoyable experience at Apa villas where the flavoursome and freshly bought and prepared foods are served to your own taste. The tariff includes dinner-or lunch if you prefer-and breakfast is your opportunity to choose from extensive menus. Complimentary tea and bottled water are available at all times. Breakfast is a plentiful tropical fruit selection, toast and eggs or indulge yourself in homemade muesli and lemon pancakes. Sri lankan breakfast may be a great experience for the whole group on one morning. Evening meals are spiced to suit individual tastes-from mild to hot- and use coconut milk, local vegetables, freshly caught lobster, crab, squid and prawns or fresh meats from the market, to make an array of unique Sri Lankan dishes. The traditional sago pudding always suprises guest as the sweet jaggery (fudge) and hibiscus flowers are edible and very tasty. Light lunches are available at a very reasonable price. Salads, toasted sandwiches and scrumptious sweet treats. Wines may be brought in but are not available in house. Chilled beers freshly made juices and cocktails featuring local spirits can be provided. Other restaurants to visit are in nearby Galle hotels, beach cafes in Unawatuna, or Wijaya restaurant just 1km walk away. If you head out for the day, the kitchen staff will happily prepare a picnic hamper.
