A charming 1910 colonial beach house nestled beside Tangalle Bay, Coco Tangalla has been lovingly restored into an intimate and luxurious retreat. British expat Tim Jacobson’s deep knowledge and love of Sri Lanka led him to this wonderfully unspoilt corner of the south, where wide sandy beaches, sea breezes and a slower pace of life set the scene.
Surrounded by coconut and palm trees, the house opens towards the coast and sits within nine acres of beautiful gardens dotted with sun loungers and quiet corners to relax. A saltwater swimming pool and spacious dining terrace add to the laid-back atmosphere.
Food is another reason to linger, with an excellent kitchen that has earned Coco Tangalla a reputation among food lovers exploring Sri Lanka’s south coast.
The property can be booked as individual rooms or taken in its entirety, making it particularly appealing for families and groups looking for privacy.
Just a short drive from a beautiful beach known for swimming and surfing, Coco Tangalla is a wonderfully relaxed base for discovering the quieter side of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
This elegant black-and-white beachfront villa offers an intimate and luxurious coastal retreat, where contemporary comfort meets timeless charm. Thoughtfully decorated with vibrant fabrics, curated artwork, and unique crafts collected from around the world, the property creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that feels more like a private home than a hotel. All rooms are air-conditioned and feature ensuite bathrooms, premium amenities, and calming views of the surrounding tropical landscape and ocean.
The rear of the property is the focal point and its breezy verandah looks out to the ocean. Bright and bold cotton fabrics are used imaginatively in the upholstery and bed linen to bring "prana" (life) to the house. A wonderful collection of art nouveau canvasses and crafts/costumes from various continents enliven the pristine white walls.
A central ‘cosy’ living area opens on to a large TV room and library. Traditional white arches and attractive mouldings break up the high ceilings. All 6 luxurious rooms are air-conditioned. All 6 luxurious rooms are air-conditioned
In the Main house, there are 4 bedrooms (3 Deluxe & 1 Standard) , which differ in design and colours giving a sense of individuality, and the feeling of staying in a home. All have ensuite bathrooms with shower, as well as a basin, WC and bidet. One of these rooms has Twin Beds.
Adjacent to the main house are two more bedrooms. These can interconnect by a short passageway, making them an ideal combination for a family. The larger bedroom has its own private verandah over looking the sea, with a large beanch seat covered in cushions and dining. There is a large ensuite bathroom with rain-shower, as well as double-basin WC and bidet. The other bedroom has Twin Beds, connecting into a large party outdoor bathroom with shower, as well as a double-basin and WC.
All rooms have mosquito nets but the sea breeze almost makes them redundant.
Breakfast time offers a tropical or western menu and for dinner a more comprehensive choice is planned, featuring the plentiful sea food of the region but also including meat dishes to satisfy the carnivores. Light lunches are available on the terrace.
The dining area has wonderful views over the verandah, sea and rocks. An attractive Mara table and modern rattan chairs seat 8 comfortably, but should you wish to dine al fresco, you may take advantage of the large, newly completed terrace, also overlooking the sea.

Tangalle is quiet but slowly becoming a more sophisticated beach resort. Relaxing, sunbathing and sunset walks are the daily diversions. Tangalle has a few dive centres and a reef approx 1/2 mile off shore.

For great swimming, body boarding and surfing the owners will direct you to their local beach only 4 kms away. This is one of Sri Lanka's best private stretches of beach. Light lunches and drinks are available.

Yala is only 1-11/2 hrs drive away and an exciting safari to sight leopards and elephants.

Bundala Bird Sanctuary and the many turtle conservation farms are close by.
